Could I just continue as is? I could. But it feels as if I have to take a stand. I can’t call myself a lover of animals and eat them for dinner, can I? My gut feeling tells me I ought to put down my steak knife and mean it. But I’m not quite there yet.

Yes, you can. Would you put your dog on a vegetarian diet? That would be cruel, wouldn’t it? And, if your dog can eat meat, why can’t you? You need the heme iron and the B12 vitamin in red meat as much as he does. Living beings eat each other, that’s a fact of life. What gives a clam a better claim to life than a carrot? Of course, I want beef to live a happy life before making it to my dinner plate. That would be an argument for eating grass-fed beef, but not for going vegan. Doesn’t that make more sense?
