I am not a dualist: I don’t think that there is something spiritual besides matter. I am not a panpsychist, either: I don’t think that consciousness is the primary essence of the Universe.

I think thar the concept that can bridge the gap between mind and matter is information, which is measurable and amenable to scientific investigation. The hierarchy of being that I describe here are increasingly complex instances of information processing. Likewise, spiritual experiences are ways in which our minds integrate what we perceive from the world, deriving meaning from it.
